Child Support

When it comes to determining the amount of child support for which either parent may be responsible, the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland each have Child Support Guidelines that help to determine child support amounts using a variety of factors. They take into consideration the income of each parent, the amount of time the child spends with each parent, and the number of children involved. The Guideline amounts are presumptively applicable up to income maximums in each state. Above the income maximums, the Guidelines set minimum amounts and include standards for determining child support on a case-by-case basis.
