Soumya Venkatesh joined Delaney McKinney in October 2013. Prior to joining the firm, she worked in the Mental Health Section of the Office of the Attorney General of the District of Columbia. Ms. Venkatesh gained trial and appellate experience in family law as a law clerk to the Honorable Cathy Hollenberg Serrette, Coordinating Judge of the Family Division in the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County, and to the Senior Judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.
During law school, Ms. Venkatesh was a Note & Comment Editor for the American University International Law Review and a member of the Student Advisory Board for the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law. Ms. Venkatesh practiced as a student attorney in the Domestic Violence Clinic, where she helped clients obtain civil protection orders and immigration relief. She also interned with the Sex Offense and Domestic Violence Section in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and for the Honorable Constance H. Frogale and the Honorable Uley Norris Damiani on the Alexandria Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court. Ms. Venkatesh was also recognized for her commitment to pro bono service during law school.
Ms. Venkatesh is a member of the Family Law Sections of the D.C. Bar, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Bar Association of Montgomery County. She is also a member of the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia. In her spare time, Ms. Venkatesh tutors high school and middle school students as a volunteer with Community Club, an organization that connects D.C. students with mentors.
